I enjoyed the addition of new characters on the raft.  It makes floating down the river passages more interesting.  The con men are very interesting.  The con men can convince many innocent people to give them money.  The money is a good thing.  Huck and Jim need money for somethings.  Although, I do not like the duke's idea to have a fake reward flyer for Jim.  i would not be able to trust people enough to put a friend in danger.  People are greedy and might want to take Jim for themselves.

I predicted that Emmeline was going to run away when Huck gave her the note.  It was like Romeo and Juliet.  Emmeline and Harney were from two feuding families.  Their families kept them apart.  I really like the incorporation of Romeo and Juliet.  It connects the book to other literature people would know.  Unfortunately, the feud is not resolved af

These chapters face many moral dilemmas.  I think that Huck wants Jim to be free, but his conscience does not.  He feels bad about taking Jim from Miss Watson.  Miss Watson taught Huck how to read and how to behave.  On another level, Huck looks at Jim as a somewhat equal when Huck apologizes to Jim.  When they were separated, Huck looked for the raft and Jim.  I believe Huck faces many dilemmas in the following chapters.

These chapters show that Huck is still a child.  He is able to run away, but he still wants to explore.  He enjoys reading adventure stories like every other little boy.  I also believe Huck does not understand Jim's situation.  Jim is a runaway slave, so people won't stop looking for him.  People have stopped looking for Huck's "body."  Although Huck does not like to be alone, he needs to have a little adventure.  Adventure could end up harming Jim.  In addition, Huck has a growing sense of right and wrong.  In the beginning of the book, Huck wouldn't think twice about stealing.  I believe Huck is slowly maturing.

I am glad that Huck and Jim found the house.  The house gave them supplies that they would have had trouble getting.  When Huck was being dressed as a girl, I was very amused.  Huck was so desperate to know what was going on that he dressed up.  Mrs. Loftus was a very amusing character.  She knew that Huck was lying, but she want along with it.  Although Mrs. Loftus knew Huck must be a runaway, she assumed it was for a good reason.  I like Mrs. Loftus for that.  She assumes the good in people.  I am very curious about where Jim and Huck will go now.

These chapters were very interesting.  I don't know if I would have been able to stage my own murder and leave all my friends behind.  I think Huck was able to do it because his father had removed him from society already.  In the eighth chapter, I found Jim's dialogue somewhat difficult to read.  Although it was interesting to see how slaves talked during that time.  Huck was very brave when he decided not to turn Jim in.  During the time of slavery, someone could be arrested for not turning a slave in.  So far, chapters seven and eight have been the most interesting.

These chapters made me feel very sorry for Huck.  He was finally adjusting to life with Widow Douglas when Pap kidnaps him.  With his father, Huck is constantly fearing for his life.  That is very scary.  Before his father appeared, Huck knew he was coming.  I can not believe he knew after all those years of not seeing him.  Huck also knew that he should get rid of his money.  For not being very smart in school, Huck has a lot of common sense.  Huck knew how to live in the real world.

I was very surprised that Huck had a hard time with imagination.  For young boys, imagination usually comes very easily.  Huck only saw what was right in front of him.  He did not see what Tom and the other boys saw.  I was not surprised that Huck had a hard time praying.  He grew up without knowing about God, therefore it is hard for Huck to accept God now.
