Chapter 15:  Huck and Jim are three days away from reaching the end of Illinois.  They plan to buy a steam boat to go up the Ohio River when they get to the spot where the two rivers intersect.  On the second of the estimated three days, it was very foggy.  Huck tried to tie the raft to shore, but the raft escaped.  He chased after it in the canoe.  It took Huck almost all night to find the raft.  Jim was asleep on the raft during the search.
Chapter 16:  Jim and Huck continue down the river.  When they think they are near Cairo, Huck decides to go to shore and find out where they are.  A group of men almost help Huck, but they think his Pap is on the raft with small pox.  (Small pox is a deadly, contagious  disease.)  However, the men gave Huck $40 and recommended that they should try to go ashore in twenty miles where it was safer.  As Huck and Jim traveled down the river, a steamboat ran over their raft.  Huck and Jim both jumped overboard.
